Hungry Wednesday

I am getting over the Flu. It hit me like a brick Friday, hence no Friday Covet. :( Boo.. So I'll do two this week. Yay. Now, i am feeling better, and I am hungry! I found this neato tutorial on Chow.com, a very swank, cool food site. Chef Andrew Carmellini shows us the 'proper' authentic technique for amazing tasting pasta.

Check it out. I am trying this method for pasta this week. Very exciting stuff at my house. :)

1/15 Friday's Covet

Sometimes I see an item and I can imagine purchasing it and I can picture all the places I'd wear it and all the compliments that would be heaped on me.. I easily get caught up in the romance and high of a new bauble.

This week I found my covet on Etsy; an amazing site for Handmade and Vintage. Trust me; Etsy is so far from the ‘country goose’ arts and crafts movement we endured in the 80’s as you can get. The artists on Etsy are amazing.

 I am drawn to items made from existing items. Up-cycling, repurposed, renewed etc.

 This gorgeous pendant; Green Earth is made from Sea Glass. Sea glass is basically trash (broken glass) that the ocean has changed into a treasure by the pounding of the waves and sand on the piece of sharp glass rendering it smooth and ephemeral.

 Seashaped’s Shop on Etsy is chock full of handcrafted jewelry, much of it incorporating one of a kind pieces of sea glass. It was really hard to choose only one piece to share with you. I settled on the dark green pendant that first caught my eye. It looks like it would fit in the palm of my hand and get warm quickly.

 Reasonably priced, I am certain that one of Seashaped treasures will be given as a gift from me this year.

 

Bed Warmers DIY

I was recently asked about my bed warmers. Since the cold snap, they have become part of our nightly ritual. I really believe the lavender and the fragrant Jasmine rice calms my toddler. Aromatherapy on the cheap! My son rides his bicycle to school and we put one of the little ones shown in the pic below in each of his pants pockets and he said they kept his legs warm. This is a great idea for the pockets of walkers too to keep fingers and hands warm.

I use rice bags with a 1/8c or less of Lavender buds. White rice, Brown rice, or Jasmine rice (or you can use plain rice too) I used Jasmine rice because it has a nice aroma. I used the large square one pictured with brown rice without Lavender and it worked just as well with very little scent.

 

I had squares of flannel that I had lying around.. About 5X5 squares.. I edged them with my sewing machine, to prevent fraying, which in turn prevents seams from opening up and rice in your bed or pocket.

 

Project Runway Season 7

I am all a twitter..

Project Runway starts Thursday January 14th at 10p on Lifetime. I am so excited.. This show inspires me to keep plugging at even though the little voices in my head may say uh-uh. Anyone else watching? A good Saturday for me is sewing in front of the TV with a marathon on Bravo! I love the bitchiness! Bring on the catty-ness and critiques!! Love it love it love it!! I checked out the PR page and I noticed the little tiny Tim Gunn.. I want one.. He is pocket sized!

How Neat!
