Music Monday 05/31 " One Eskimo"

School starts today for moi. Staying home, taking my classes. Too bogged down for deep bloggin'. LOL...

Hoping that most of us will realize why we have Monday off. I have a friend in Iraq, and I pray for him every night, not just today. We may not agree with why our military are in action in certain areas, but we can support them no matter what. Military families, not just the soldier sacrifice a lot for a soldier's duty.

I've been hearing this song a lot on our local Lowcountry station that plays some great music, The Bridge. And apparently this song, Kandi by One Eskimo made it onto a pretty cool show, "Bones".. Neat..

Music Monday "Home" Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros has a song that has been playing on our Local Low Country radio station for weeks. “Home” is beyond contagious and as a family Sweet Pea, First Born, and I  bounce around the living room with wild abandon.. while Man-Friend snickers at us. Yet, while bobbing our heads to the catchy beat, we care not.. This song is that good.

 

Kind of crunchy, kind of hippy.. a lot like me. Did I mention I am coveting the Snake  shirt? Love the Tree and Snake  featured on it.. Sigh.. How cute it this?

Friday Covet 4/23 Poetry Rings

I really like jewelry with inscriptions. It smacks of romance, whispers, and love.

This week’s Covet is from Atlanta, Ga based artist Delias Thompson on Etsy.  I am featuring the Set of Three Stackable Secret Poetry Rings.

Sigh. I’ve been looking into inscription rings for a while.. Most seem to have the messages inscribed on the top or inside of the ring.. Delias Thompson inscribes the messages on the sides of the ring.. Making the ring more wearable, and keeping the message private and intimate... 

 

They are available as a single ring or in stacks for longer messages or bits of poetry. Very affordable little treats for yourself or a love.

Hungry Wednesday "Fake Lasagna"

This recipe originally appeared in the March 2002 issue of Real Simple magazine called, ‘Fake it Don't Make it". Real Simple's January 2009 issue featured Readers' Favorite Recipes and this fake lasagna was printed again.

I love Lasagna, I just hate all the cheese. Being lactose intolerant doesn't make eating Lasagna any easier on the old tum-tum. Being able to make a delish meal under 30 minutes intrigues me.. so of course I tried it. This recipe boasts a 15 minute prep time and a total time of 55 minutes.

Last-minute lasagna

1 24- or 26-ounce jar pasta sauce
2 18-20-ounce refrigerated large cheese ravioli
1 10-ounce box frozen chopped spinach, thawed and excess water squeezed dry
1 8-ounce bag shredded mozzarella
1/2 cup (2 ounces) grated Parmesan

 Heat oven to 375° F.

Earth Day 2010

 

There is a movement going on right now, whether we choose to acknowledge it or not.

 

Our climate is changing at a terrifying rate. Our consumption of oil and fossil fuels has not abated even with gasoline in the four dollar price range. We have become a disposable nation.  As we lose more rain forests that we cannot regrow and watch the ice shelves melt away, many families want to make a change. Like ours, they feel everything we do counts.

 

Change can begin small.

 

We have a choice each day to be proactive.  My hope is to make creations that are reusable, natural, and earth friendly. I want to decrease my imprint on this planet and become a

 

My family is passionate about the environment, and tends to shy away from anything that is not natural or filled with chemicals. We take pride in making an effort to eliminate chemicals in our own home. Every little thing we do makes a difference.

Music Monday 4/12/10 "When I'm 64.."

Spring Break is over in the Low Country. Spent mine with my Man-Friend, First Born, Sweet Pea, and a chest cold. Ate some incredible meals prepared by said Man-Friend. A lovely Asparagus and Goat Cheese Quiche and omelets that were so delicious I wanted to drag them upstairs.

 

… MMMM well done Man friend. Kudos to you. Will you still make this lovely food when I’m 64?

 

Monday’s music pick is a unknown musician I found on Youtube playing an acoustic guitar version of Lennon and McCarthy’s “When I’m 64.” I think it is sweet.

Yay for Spring!

Hungry Wednesday Apple Crisp

Bethany's Apple Crisp

I've made this several times. After picking too many apples at Gilcrease Orchard we did a little experimentation in the kitchen with some inspiration from several other recipes. Here's our concoction.. Makes the whole house smell like Autumn. Keep in mind, not all apples are meant to be baked. A wonderful snacking apple can and will often turn into a flavorless mush when baked into a pie or crisp.

Apples I recommend for baking are:

1. Gala

2. Braeburn

3.  Fuji

Apple Mixture:

Apples 8-9 or as many apples as you like. You can always add more to the mixture. We do enough apples to make a 9X9 Crisp.

3 TBSP of Sugar

1 1/2 TSP of Cinnamon (Nutmeg and Ginger are also nice added to this!)

6 or more TBSP of Butter; cut into cubes.

2 TBSP of flour

Mix all together in a bowl. I like to let mine sit for a while and 'juice' up. Set aside.
